Udaipur, the city of lakes is a picturesque city in the state of Rajasthan. This place in the Aravalli ranges differs from the normal idea of Rajasthan’s temperature. Unlike other cities in India, Udaipur has much cooler climate and more water bodies.
The most popular tourist places in Udaipur is the Royal palace of the Mewar dynasty. This Palace built on the east bank of the Pichhola lake was built over 400 years. This magnificent palace is a treat to the eyes and also exciting to someone who loves to see how the royals would have lived in their times. The different parts of the huge palace is interconnected by several courtyards, zigzag corridors and facades. you can witness the great architecture, the wall paintings, colored glass designs, chariots and motor vehicles, dice games, and day to day items used by the royal family.
Lake Pichhola is one of the most famous lakes in Udaipur. This is a man made lake with four islands in it viz. Jag niwas, Jag mandir, Mohan mandir, Arsi Vilas. By the city palace, this lake has an extraordinary view. You can take a boat ride to see all the islands in this lake.
Bagore ki Haveli
This haveli in Udaipur is again by the lake Pichhola and was built in the eighteenth century. This has now been turned into a museum where all the costumes and art is displayed in over hundred rooms in the haveli. You can also see the glass interiors and Mewar paintings.
Maharana Pratap Singh Smarak
This place is situated on a Stuart hill and the first thing you can see after entering the enclosure is the statue of Maharana Pratap Singh on his horse Chetak along with his ministers. This place has a small museum where you can see the ammunition and dioramas of the princely state of Udaipur. You can also enjoy a spectacular view from the top of this enclosure.
Saheliyon ki Bari
saheliyon ki Bari is a major tourist attraction in Udaipur. This small garden has a lotus pool along with fountains and marble elephant structures. This place was built by Maharana Sangram Singh for the royal ladies.
Shilpgram is a rural arts and crafts complex in Udaipur. This complex has several traditional huts depicting the lifestyle of the tribal people of the region. It also displays the local art and crafts which include terracotta pottery, oxidised jewellery, textile, wooden items. You can also try your hands at pottery here for a minimal fee.
Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal
This is a cultural institution in Udaipur showcasing and studying the cultural heritage of Rajasthan. This place has a collection of wall art, paintings, masks, wood paintings and drawings from over the centuries. There’s a puppet theatre too where you can enjoy a puppet show.
Overlooking the Fateh Sagar Lake, this is a hilltop residence built for Maharana Sajjan Singh. From this place you can have a view of the whole city and the lakes. High in the Aravalli range, this place was used to watch the monsoon clouds and as a hunting lodge.
This is a hill in Udaipur that overlooks the Fateh Sagar Lake. Atop the hill, there is a bronze statue of Maharana Pratap Singh with his favorite horse Chetak.
Fateh Sagar Lake
This is one of the four lakes in Udaipur, the other three being Lake Pichola, UdaiSagar Lake, Jaisamand Lake. On the banks of this river there are some really beautiful dome shaped structres which are lit up in the evening.
